5. Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt in medium bowl; stir into sugar mixture.
6. Stir in nuts.
7. Spread into prepared baking pan.

It's not always possible to get out to a spa, especially over the holidays. But that doesn't mean you can't bliss out at home. Here are some tips to help you escape the holiday madness and achieve the relaxation and benefits of the spa experience in the comfort of you own abode.
Creating the atmosphere
Music
Acquiring spa music couldn't be easier. Several music download sites offer the perfect relaxation music, from yoga chants and ocean waves to ethereal sounds, classical music and even light jazz. Try iTunes in the categories of classical, inspirational or new age. Or you can simply put ';spa music'; in your internet search engine to find appropriate music downloads.
Some suggestions: anything by Enya, Gregorian chants, soothing sounds of ocean waves, or rain.
Candles
Scented candles are a must for creating a spa atmosphere. The most effective scents are those infused with essential oils which contain healing and relaxation properties.
Lavender - helps with relaxation, a general sense of well-being, balances emotions and encourages restful sleep.
Jasmine - helps relieve tension.
Orange - smells fresh, helps relieve tension, anxiety and disappointment.
Peppermint / Spearmint - lifts mood, restores energy and helps with mental clarity.
Rose - a pleasing smell that can calm mood and promote sleep.
Ylang Ylang - helps relieve feelings of panic and stress, lessens feelings of anger and aggression.
Eucalyptus - unblocks stuffy nose due to allergies or colds.
To sip:
Green Tea and White Tea - the perfect drink for promoting good health, it contains antioxidants that fight viruses, slow aging, and reduce cancer risks. Green tea has also been proven to reduce high blood pressure, and stabilize blood sugar levels.
Rooibos or Red tea - also contains disease-fighting antioxidants, has been found to lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and is recommended to ease irritability, headaches, insomnia, tension, mild depression or hypertension and relieve indigestion. It contains zinc and alpha-hydroxy acid, which promotes healthy skin and magnesium which keeps the nervous system healthy.
Supplies:
Comfortable bath or Jacuzzi
Comfortable and supportive flat surface for massage
Big, warm, comfy towels.
Bubble bath, bath bombs, essential oils
Body sugar or scrub, body lotion, massage oil
Hand and nail lotion, cuticle oil, nail scissors, nail files, nail buffer, polish remover, nail polish, base and top coat.
Foot file or pumice stone, foot cream.
Small soaking bowl for hands, larger soaking bowl for feet.
Cotton balls, tissues, toe separators, small towels for nails and feet.
Solitary spa:
Set aside at least an hour to enjoy a leisurely and aromatic soak in your bathtub, surrounded by candles and sweet smelling bath oils. Take your time towelling off, apply body lotion paying special attention to dry spots and tension points. This is your moment to pamper yourself the same way a spa attendant would. Lose yourself in the music, leave your hectic day behind you and savour the moments of peaceful solitude. Don't leave the bathroom until your mind feels at rest, your body relaxed and supple.
Spa with your mate:
A perfect way to unwind and reconnect with your significant other. You don't need a professional masseuse to feel relaxed. Just learn a few simple techniques and practice makes perfect. Chances are you don't have a massage table on hand, but a firm and comfortable bed or surface will work.
Simple Massage Techniques:
Swedish massage is the most common technique and easiest to learn. It uses soothing, tapping and kneading strokes to work out muscle tension and relieve sore joints.
The five basic moves are:
Effleurage: Or Stroking, use this part of the technique to apply an aromatically scented massage oil
Petrissage: lightly grabbing and lifting muscles
Friction: working deep circles into muscles with thumbs and fingertips
Tapotement: chopping, beating, and tapping strokes
Vibration: pressing fingers on a muscle, and shaking rapidly for a few seconds
Spa with your gal pals:
Nail night is always fun! Instead of healthy tea, spice things up with your favourite festive cocktail; sparkling wine, spiked eggnog or a girl's-night-in Cosmo. No men allowed!
Manicure:
Prepare a small bowl with some mild bath soap, or a few drops of lemon juice.
Remove any polish and cut nails if needed.
File your nails; square, short nails are best for the darker polish colours that are in fashion this winter.
Buff your nails to even out any lines or uneven surfaces.
Soak your hands, one at a time, for 5 to 10 minutes.
Massage cuticles with almond oil, caster oil, Vitamin E oil or store-bought cuticle oil.
Use a nail stick to push cuticles back, carefully remove excess cuticle skin with nail or cuticle scissors.
Before applying polish, clean nails with alcohol or nail polish remover. This removes oils and creams used earlier.

Chicken is always easy. Try this:
Cut up a chicken (or buy it cut) add salt and pepper on both sides and fry it until golden It doesnt have to be thoroughly cooked, just golden. Remove from pan and in the same pan, fry a lot of sliced onions, about 5 medium. Sprinkle about 3 tablespoons of sugar on them and let them caramelize. They will turn a delicious pale golden color and appear sticky. You can add a couple shots of honey if you fancy it.
Add about 1 1/2 cups of Apple cider vinegar and 1 cup of chicken stock and put the chicken pieces back in. Let it come to a boil and reduce the flame and let it thicken. The smell starts very strong, but when it reduces, it becomes absolutely delicious. Mash some potatoes to accompany it, You can also boil some green beans to complement the meal. He will lick his fingers and love you more! The best recipe?
Chicken with a brie cheese sauce over bow tie pasta =)
you might not like the brie though, its an aquired taste i guess?
How about cornish hens? They are so easy to make and they look very impressive.
CORNISH GAME HENS WITH RICE STUFFING
2 (1 lb.) Cornish game hens seasoned with salt, inside and out
In small pan cook 2 tablespoons almonds, 2 tablespoons onion and 1/3 cup long grain rice (uncooked) in 3 tablespoons butter for 5-10 minutes, stirring often. Add 1 cup water, 1 chicken bouillon cube, 1 teaspoon lemon juice and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Boil and cover 20-25 minutes or until, rice is fluffy. Stir in a 3 ounce can of mushrooms. Lightly stuff birds. Place breast side up on rack in shallow pan. Brush with melted butter. Roast, covered at 400 degrees for 30 minutes. Uncover and roast 1 hour more until leg twists easily.
try a pot roast. Many people simply go for meat and potatoes. The best roast in my family is very simple. Rub salt and pepper into the meat and put it in a crock-pot. On top, add a cut-up onion. Sprinkle on 1/2 package of dry onion soup mix and a can of cream of mushroom. Close and turn on low for 8 hours. Do not add liquid. Add any side dishes you want from garlic mashed potatoes to steamed frozen veggies. If you need recipes to follow, use www.allrecipes.com and use their search engine with any ingredient you choose.

CINDY'S LASAGNA
This is a recipe I created through experimentation. I knew a woman who always asked me to cook it for her, she said she had tried lasagna from here to Italy and it was the best she had ever tasted. This is a recipe that makes enough for a large family gathering!
1 package of lasagna noodles
1-1 1/2 jars thick spaghetti sauce
1/2 chopped green pepper
1 large chopped onion
1 large container Ricotta or small curd cottage cheese
2 cups Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
1/2 tsp. cracked black pepper
2 eggs
1/4 cup freshly chopped parsley
1 large package (3 cups} fancy shredded cheese
2 cups mozzarella cheese
1 lb. Italian sausage cooked and chopped
1 lb. ground beef cooked and chopped, then mix meats together
2 cans of mushrooms slices
Saut茅 onions and peppers in butter or olive oil.
Combine Ricotta or cottage cheese with eggs, Parmesan cheese, cracked black pepper and parsley.
Cook noodles rinse in cold water, drain and separate, set aside, preheat oven to 375掳F.
In a large deep non-stick baking pan, layer bottom with spaghetti sauce, about two cups. Next, place a layer of noodles, then sauce until lightly covered, then a thin layer of Rictotta or cottage cheese mixture, meats, onions and peppers, and mushrooms, sprinkle remaining cheeses in layers, one on top another.
When you lay your last layer of noodles, place a thin layer of sauce and (make sure you have saved enough cheeses for the top) over the layer of sauce layer cheeses with the mozzarella on top, bake at 375掳F uncovered until the top is golden brown and bubbly

1 tsp baking powder
A pinch of salt
25g cocoa powder
150g caster sugar
100g unsalted butter, very soft
2 large free-range eggs
125ml milk
For the topping:
100g plain chocolate
1 tbsp golden syrup
25g unsalted buter
A 12-hole muffin tray lined with paper muffin cases (or our funky paper cake cases!)
1) Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C (350F, Gas mark 4)

4) Pour the eggs and milk into the bowl. Use a wooden spoon to mix all the ingredients together to make a smooth cake batter.
5) Carefully spoon the cake mixture into the paper cases, putting an equal amount into each one.
6) Put the cakes in the preheated oven to bake for 20 minutes, until just firm to the touch. Remove the tray from the oven and leave to cool for about 2 minutes. Transfer the cakes to a wire rack and leave to cool completely.
7) While the cakes are cooling, make the topping. Break up the chocolate and put it in a small heatproof bowl with the golden syrup and butter. Place the bowl over a saucepan filled with steaming hot but not boiling water. Stir gently with a wooden spoon until smooth and melted. Leave to cool for 5 minutes.
8) To finish the cakes, spoon the smooth runny topping on top of the cakes and add your decorations. Leave to set before eating. Store your cupcakes in an airtight container and eat within 4 days.

Add about one third of the dry ingredients to the butter and sugar mixture and beat to combine. Add about half of the milk/vanilla mixture and beat to combine. Bake the cupcakes for about 22-25 minutes, until the cake tester comes out clean.
Just for fun, I wanted to turn these cupcakes into german chocolate cupcakes. So what I did was coat the sides of the cupcakes with a ganache and rolled it in toasted coconut and finely chopped pecans. For the icing on top, I used a dulce de leche frosting, which I made by combining the dulce de leche with a bit of a good buttercream frosting. I piped that on top in a swirl and on top of that, I drizzled some of the extra ganache in a thin strand. Oh my god they were delicious! Unfortunately I don鈥檛 have a picture of these awesome cupcakes, only the chocolate cupcakes by themselves. Enjoy!

Personally, I am a vegetarian so I can't say I've tasted this before but my sister LOVES her crock pot and this is her all time favorite recipe for chili...everyone always loves it, don't be thrown off by the somewhat unusual ingredient list!
1 lb lean ground beef, browned and drained
1 package dry onion soup mix
2 teaspoons cocoa powder
2-3 tablespoons chili powder
1 can tomato paste
1 can Diet Coke
Mix all ingredients in crock pot and cook on low for 6 hours.
And just an added thing-if you are interested, she always makes this chocolate mud cake in her crock pot and it is AMAZING!!!! here is the recipe-
1 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
6 tablespoons butter
2 ounces semisweet chocolate or chocolate chips
1 cup sugar, divided
3 tablespoons Dutch-processed cocoa powder, plus
1/3 cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup milk
1 egg yolk
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups hot water
whipped cream or ice cream
Coat the inside of a 2 ½ quart to 5 quart slow cooker or crock pot with cooking spray.
(Note: the cake’s cooking time and final appearance will vary depending on your crock’s size.) Whisk together the flour and baking powder in a medium bowl and set aside.
In a large bowl, melt the butter and chocolate in the microwave or over a pan of simmering water and mix well.
Whisk in the 2/3 cup of sugar, 3 T.
of cocoa, vanilla, salt, milk, and egg yolk.
Add the flour mixture and stir until thoroughly mixed.
Pour the batter into the slow cooker and spread it evenly.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the remaining sugar, cocoa and hot water until the sugar is dissolved.
Pour the mixture over the batter in the slow cooker.
Cover and cook on high for 1 ¼ to 2 ¼ hours, depending on size of the crock pot.
Even when done, the cake will be very moist and floating on a layer of molten chocolate, but you will know it is ready when nearly all of the cake is set and the edges begin to pull away from the sides of the pot.
(As you check, try not to let the condensed steam from the lid, drip on the cake.) When it is done, turn off the power and remove the lid.
Let it cool for 25 minutes, then serve it in bowls topped with whipped cream or ice cream.

One of my favorite is an easy, comfort-food dish - crockpot chicken and dumplings. Simple and delicious. Just search on the site for the recipe. Enjoy!
Chicken and Dumplings

Add carrots and cook for 30 minutes. Thicken broth with cornstarch or flour mixed with cold water. Tear refrigerator biscuits into 3-4 pieces each and drop into boiling broth, lower heat and cover. Simmer for about 5 minutes, until biscuits puff up. Add chicken and carrots, stir, and serve.
Or
Split Pea, Ham, %26amp; Sausage Soup
12 oz dried split peas

16 oz polish or kielbasa sausage, cut in bite size pieces
1 cup chopped ham
1 cup chopped carrots
1 onion, chopped
1 bay leaf
salt and pepper, to taste
Put peas, broth, ham, carrots, onion, bay leaf and seasonings in crock-pot.
Brown sausage in skillet and add to crock-pot. Fill to 2” from top with water, cover, and cook on low for 10 hours or high for 5 hours. Remove lid for last hour to thicken or add cornstarch mixed with cold water to soup. Remove bay leaf.
Serve with cornbread and honey butter. You can use ham, sausage, both, or leave the meat out all together. Its good either way.
I LOVE my crockpot - we use it at least once per week. I have many favourite recipes, but the best ones come from a little book called Real Food from your Slo Cooker. It's £4.99 (ridiculously cheap) and found on Amazon.
The split pea with bacon soup, casseroles, beef soup, pork with cider, turkey in a cream sauce - it is just fabulous! And it has both American and UK measurements.
Have fun!
Beef Sandwiches! Take a round roast or sirloin roast and cut it into large chunks. Add a package of Au Jus seasoning mix and about half of a jar of pepperochini peppers-- break them up and take out the seeds and the stems. Then add about half a jar of the pepper juice and enough water to cover the beef. Add about 2 teaspoons of dried fennel seeds. Cook for about 4 hours or until you can shred the beef easily with a fork. Serve on kaiser or Italian rolls.

-cheapest piece of roast at the store
-white potatoes cleaned and quartered
-baby carrots
-onions
-garlic
put all of this in the crock pot. Pour a little olive oil over it, and perhaps 1/3 c water. Add any spices you like (basil, parsley, bay leaf, etc.). Put on High and leave for 5-8 hours.
2. Beer Cheese fondue
-one block of cubed cheese
-1/2 cup milk
-1/3 cup beer
-3 tbs flour
Stir together and heat in pot for 2-4 hours, stirring occasionally. Use apple, bread, pears, beef cubes, pretzels, etc. for dipping.
Good luck!

Roasts are wonderful when cooked in a slow cooker. You can make them into any flavor - from beef burgundy to barbeque. And, it's very easy.... I find all of my crockpot recipes on www.allrecipes.com. The recipes are rated by users, so it helps you find the good ones.
One of my favorite is an easy, comfort-food dish - crockpot chicken and dumplings. Simple and delicious. Just search on the site for the recipe. Enjoy!
Chicken and Dumplings
1 whole chicken
1 bay leaf
2 tsp garlic salt
6 black peppercorns
6 cups of water
1 cup baby carrots
1 package refrigerator biscuits (10 – 12)
Place chicken in crock pot and add everything except carrots. Cook on low for about 8-10 hours. Remove chicken and de-bone. Pour broth into large pot on stove and heat until boiling.
2 -14 oz cans beef broth
