What's your BEST grilled cheese recipe?

Do you put anything in it other than cheese? Use a different kind of bread or cheese? Grill it a certain way? What's your BEST grilled cheese recipe?
I usually use whatever bread I have on hand. I slather on the butter on the outside, and use freshly grated medium cheddar. Grill those puppies till they're nice and golden. mmmmmm...mmm!What's your BEST grilled cheese recipe?
I use what ever cheese we have around. But I like to add tomato and or ham at times. My mom make it by using mayo instead of butter on the bread.
I like to use Swiss Cheese with a little mayo and a thinly-sliced tomato. I butter my Wonder Bread and fry it up.

Your question made me hungry. I think I may go make one for lunch now...yum!
I only have my worst recipe to tell you.... white bread, two slices of american cheese, then topped with more white bread... gently toasted in the toaster oven. Or in a skillet that has been oiled or sprayed with oil.

APPLE, HAM, AND CHEDDAR ON SOURDOUGH

Makes 4 sandwiches

Cheddar and apple is a classic combination, as is cheddar and ham. So why not combine America's favorite cheese with apples and ham and grill them? Best of all, you need no special ingredients to make this homey taste sensation.

2 tablespoons butter, at room temperature

8 slices sourdough bread (1/4 inch thick)

1/4 pound smoky ham, such as Virginia country ham, cut into 4 slices (or buy pre-sliced ham)

1 small green apple (about 5 ounces), such as Granny Smith, cut into 1/2-inch-thick slices

6 ounces medium or sharp cheddar cheese, coarsely grated

To assemble: Butter one side of each slice of bread. Place 4 slices on your work surface, buttered side down. Place a slice of ham on each bread slice, folding it to fit if necessary. Top with 4 to 5 apple slices per sandwich, followed by the cheese. Place the remaining 4 bread slices on top, buttered side up. (If the sandwich seems quite thick, press it down to compress the ingredients slightly.)

STOVETOP METHOD: Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat for 2 minutes. Put the sandwiches in the skillet (in batches if necessary), cover, and cook for 2 minutes, or until the undersides are golden brown and the cheese has begun to melt. Uncover, and turn the sandwiches with a spatula, pressing firmly to flatten them slightly. Cook for 1 minute, or until the undersides are golden brown. Turn the sandwiches again, press with the spatula, and cook for 30 seconds, or until the cheese has melted completely. Serve immediately.

SANDWICH MAKER METHOD: Preheat the sandwich maker. Follow directions for sandwich assembly, and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions.

GAS GRILL METHOD: Brush the grill rack with oil and preheat the grill to medium-high. Follow directions for sandwich assembly. Put the sandwiches on the grill and follow directions for the stovetop method.
add sandwich meat, i like ham. or even tomatoes
I used sliced sourdouch bread, cheddar %26amp; jack cheese, and real butter gives it an even yummier flavor.

2 tablespoons finely chopped oregano

Preheat grill. Brush each slice of bread with the garlic oil. Grill, oil-side-down until lightly golden brown. Turn each slice over and top with 2 tablespoons of Monterey Jack, 1-ounce of goat cheese, black pepper and oregano. Grill until cheese just begins to melt.
Hawiian Bread with Chedder Chesse, grilled the normal way. OOOOO it is sooo good.
I usually use sourdough bread (if I have it on hand) and grill it with Kraft yellow american cheese. When I make it for my dad, he likes sourdough bread with the yellow american cheese, but he likes to cook tomato or tomato ketchup on the cheese while it's still cooking. I personally use Kraft rather than Velveeta for 2 reasons.

1. Kraft is cheaper

2. Kraft is better tasting.

But regular white bread is good too.
4 ounces Swiss cheese, shredded

4 ounces Cheddar cheese, shredded

1/3 cup mayonnaise

1 tablespoon prepared mustard

1 tablespoon chopped green onions

8 slices french bread or rustic italian

1/4 cup butter, softened

Combine cheeses, mayonnaise, mustard, and chopped onion. Spread mixture on one side of 4 of the bread slices to within 1/4-inch of edges. Top with remaining bread slices. Spread softened butter on the outer sides of the sandwiches.

Cook over medium heat in a hot skillet or griddle until golden brown, turning once.
I use the Panini bread, mozarella %26amp; cheddar cheese, thin slices of ham, and a little oil to drizzle on top. Delicious.

Grilled Swiss with Bacon and Tomato on Rye

Cook the bacon first, slice the tomato into thick slices, use 2 slices of swiss...Awesome.
I just do basic grilled cheese- wheat bread, american cheese, and butter- but sprinkle some garlic salt on each side as it's cooking.
